A SPECIAL service of ‘praise and thanksgiving’ in Sheffield will celebrate Jamaica’s 50th anniversary of independence.
All are welcome to attend the service at Sheffield Cathedral on Sunday, August 5, which begins at 2.45pm.
A celebration on Monday also takes place at Sheffield City Hall.
The Jamaican flag will be raised at noon after a parade from SADACCA on The Wicker.
Afterwards there will be a party at the centre and people are urged to wear the colours green, gold and black.
The Jamaica Society of Sheffield has organised the events.
Carmelita Duncan, chairman, said: “Throughout the country we will be celebrating as Jamaicans.
“It is a very important event for us as a people.
“After the church service on Sunday we are going to have a meal and watch the Olympics.”
