Former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott visited Sheffield to help campaign for a city election candidate.

Lord Prescott joined Labour supporters on the campaign trail in Ecclesall to back Labour's Sheffield Hallam hopeful Jared O’Mara.

He made a brief speech praising the way the campaign was going in Hallam and urging members to step up their efforts as polling day nears.

And Lord Prescott even served ice cream on one of the hottest days of the year so far.

“The campaign is going well and it was great that John Prescott was able to join us,” said Mr O’Mara.

“He got a tremendous welcome from Labour members and members of the public. It was a chance to thank supporters for their work and the ice cream was very welcome.”
