Retail giant John Lewis is to close its Sheffield distribution centre - and create new jobs in Leeds.

The firm's site at Greasborough Road, Tinsley employs 72 people and is to close in October.

The company is to create 50 new jobs at an existing site in Logic Park, Leeds, which opened last year and already has 65 staff.

A spokesman said: "At the beginning of this year we began discussions with partners at our Sheffield distribution hub about the future of the site, and have now confirmed that the site will be closing.

"Last year we created 65 jobs in Leeds when we opened a new hub in Logic Park, and this modern facility has enabled us to run a more efficient model while maintaining our high standards of service for customers.

"We will now be creating an additional 50 new jobs at our Leeds site as a result of this change, and hope that a number of partners currently at our Tinsley site will apply for these roles, or others elsewhere in our business."

The John Lewis store in Sheffield is unaffected by this announcement and will remain open.
