ANYTHING you girls can do we lads can do just as well.

You’ve heard of Race for Life which is run by thousands of women each year.

Well now a men’s equivalent of the charity race - Chase4Life - is set to become a permanent fixture on the Sheffield calendar.

The 5km run was the idea of Joe Carter, a cancer sufferer from Woodseats, who is undergoing a gruelling month of high-dose chemotherapy at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital.

Joe will be kept in isolation and only able to see his closest loved ones in order to protect him from any infection during the treatment.

The 22-year-old, his dad John and Jean Housley organised the race to give him a goal on which to focus as he battles against the illness.

It took place on Father’s Day at the Abbeydale Sports Centre.

And it was such a success they plan to do it all again next year.

Jean said: “The response we got was absolutely fantastic. There were around 300 people who took part on the day.

“And we’re so thrilled that we will be doing it all again on Father’s Day next year.”
