Hundreds of jobs are set to be created in Doncaster as part of a multi-million pound investment by a leading insurance company.
Direct Group, is to create 200 new jobs in Doncaster following the opening of a new purpose-built head office at QuayPoint, Lakeside.
The investment will see 50 new roles created immediately in claims, underwriting and administration with the remaining roles created over the next 12 to 18 months.
Commenting on the move, Derek Coles, CEO of Direct Group, said: “This is an exciting milestone in our development as a business and it represents a significant investment for Direct Group and Ryan Specialty Group.
“We are a Doncaster company, our roots are in the town, and it was hugely important to me and the rest of the management that we keep the head office here.
“The business is ambitious and we recognise that if we are going to fulfil our ambitions both in the UK and abroad, we must continue to invest both in Doncaster and our other locations across the country.”
President of Doncaster Chamber Andrew McKenna welcomed the move.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted, we have been working with the Direct Group for some time and we are really pleased they have seen the worth of Doncaster as a place to invest.
“It’s not often we hear about 200 new jobs being created, it’s fantastic for the town and could also encourage people from further afield to move to Doncaster.”
The new office at Lakeside opened earlier this month.
The expansion of Direct Group follows the decision by Chicago-based Ryan Specialty Group to acquire the business in September last year.
Direct Group was founded in 1990 and has expanded rapidly over the last five years to become the leading insurance services provider in the UK with more than 450 staff across sites in Doncaster, London, Manchester, Preston and Elland.
The firm also recently established a European operation in Amsterdam and aims to expand into the US market in due course.
