COUNCIL bosses have helped ensure a new hospital boosts employment in Chesterfield.
A group of 15 out-of-work residents have been taken on at the specialist facility Turning Point, after Chesterfield Council included a ‘local labour clause’ when it approved plans for the Mastin Moor building.
The clause meant Turning Point was encouraged to work with the council, Jobcentre Plus and Chesterfield College to ensure local people were able to apply for the jobs and any training opportunities.
A programme was developed that specifically targeted unemployed people claiming benefits.
Training was tailored to prepare them for working within a care environment and provided qualifications.
The 37 people who took part were guaranteed an interview and 15 were successful.
