Part of Sheffield is the 11th worst unemployment blackspot in the UK.
Latest statistics released by the Government show Brightside and Hillsborough, represented by Labour MP David Blunkett, has 5,609 people who are out of work - equivalent to 11.7 per cent of the population aged 16 to 64 – the number of jobseekers has grown by 125 over the past year.
Mr Blunkett said: “No wonder the men and women of my constituency are up in arms about coalition policy.
“They are hit in a way that the Deputy Prime Minister, Sheffield Hallam MP Nick Clegg, regrettably can never understand.”
The total number of people out of work in the UK rose by 70,000 to 2.56 million in the three months to February, which is equivalent to 7.9 per cent of the working age population.
