SHEFFIELD athletics heroes Jessica Ennis and Seb Coe launched the official countdown to the London 2012 Olympics.

A giant countdown clock in London’s Trafalgar Square has now been unveiled.

Sheffield’s world heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis, aiming to win her first Olympic gold medal in 2012, said: “We all know that having a home Olympics is unique but the countdown clock is just bringing it all to light. It is all so exciting. Having the clock is a nice touch.”

Sheffield’s Olympic gold medallist and London 2012 chairman Seb Coe said: “It will be a daily and hourly reminder to everyone who visits Trafalgar Square that the countdown to the start of London 2012 has well and truly begun.”
