A SOUTH Yorkshire dinner lady is pudding herself in the fast lane to catering success after scooping a top culinary prize.
Janice Russell, from Rotherham, was highly commended in the Yorkshire and Humber school chef of the year contest for her dessert of a medley of fruits in a filo basket.
A spokesman for the judges said: “Janice’s dessert was highly praised as being well executed, tasty and of a very high professional standard.
Janice, who works at Maltby Academy, said: “I’m already planning on entering next year’s competition – and, who knows, I might even have a crack at MasterChef.”
“We often get compliments from pupils who eat our meals and that is always nice.”
The 51-year-old mother-of-three, who lives in Treeton, was previously head of catering at Rotherham Rugby Club.
