The battles were part of the entertainment at the Sheffield Fayre, held in Norfolk Heritage Park, off Guildford Avenue, which started yesterday and continues today between 10am and 5.30pm.
Scenes were recreated from the Eastern Front during World War Two, where Nazi Germany tried to invade the Soviet Union, with 'troops' in period uniforms using rifles, artillery guns and vehicles.
Meanwhile, the American Civil War, of almost a century earlier, was also brought back to life by people who travel the country to give displays.
Among the re-enactors from the American Civil War Society were South Yorkshire lads Charles Elwood, aged 25, and Christopher Sprakes, 38, both from Doncaster.
And there were re-enactments involving old British troops as well.
The Fayre is billed as "the biggest outdoor family show in South Yorkshire" and attracts up to 25,000 visitors each year.
Today's highlights include a fly-past by the Red Arrows RAF aerobatic display team.
There is also a horticulture show, entertainment arena, children's rides, a beach, traditional carousel, a communities tent, market stalls, a craft market and food and refreshment stalls.
