It’s down to safer driving

I was intrigued to read in Monday’s Star the statistics on collisions involving children and the possible causes.

I think you will find, or at least in my experience of driving through the city on a regular basis that the most likely cause is the people in the named areas just don’t care for the safety of children on the roads.

For example, there are many frequent examples of pavement parking as well as double and triple parking.

Parking on crossings and using crossings and drives to access the pavement are common sights.

U-turns on junctions and crossroads are not uncommon nor is the total indifference to any speed limit whether children are around or not.

What I note from my experiences of driving through what would be regarded as the safer areas (though not completely problem free) of the city is that drivers are far more considerate of other users of the road whether motorist, cyclist or pedestrian.
