Just a thought. We have some new trams on order that can travel on rail and tram lines.
Why not order some more and revive the Woodhead Tunnel route to Manchester to take the new trams? Trams are “light railways” and don’t need the heavy infrastructure that trains require. Also the route was once electrified.
It’s a win-win. Just link it into the existing system and we have a way to get more of us, more comfortably, across the Pennines and beyond.
