A snooker-loving woman who reads Vogue, does her food shop at Aldi but loves designer clothes is the unlikely profile of a typical Sheffielder, according to a new poll.
The 25 to 39-year-old is most likely to work in education, drive a Volkswagen and tuck into spinach pie or lamb jalfrezi as her favourite dish.
Polling website YouGov has used its data to provide a detailed snapshot of what the average Sheffield and South Yorkshire resident looks like in relation to the rest of the country and the results are...interesting.
Their findings also show the average Sheffielder has less than £125 a month spare to spend, enjoys musical instruments and is likely to own a cat.
She banks with HSBC, shops at luxury brands Kurt Geiger, Boden and Fenn Wright Mason for clothes then goes home to watch films such as Goodbye Lenin or What’s Eating Gilbert Grape.
Perhaps more realistically, the poll says the typical Sheffield woman’s favourite bands include Arctic Monkeys and Pulp.
Both the city’s football clubs are listed under her ‘niche interests’, as is the Peak District and Leeds.
The typical South Yorkshire man is even more adventurous with his food, according to the poll.
He tucks in to ortolan - a rare songbird controversially eaten in France, once it has been cruelly drowned in red wine, while diners wear a napkin on their head - or Polish chicken soup.
The man, aged 40 to 59, enjoys model building, rugby league is his favourite sport and he is most likely to own a dog.
He drives his Kia car to shop at Morrisons and then home to spend more than 50 hours a week online - or watching Doctor Who, Midsomer Murders and listening to Thin Lizzy.
Online the typical South Yorkshire man often visits FHM’s website, while the woman visits The Star.
