Sheffield was voted the 56th least car-friendly town in the table of 65 places.

But Rotherham fared much better - and was voted the seventh most car-friendly town in the survey.

The Berkshire town of Slough was voted the most unpopular and St Helens on Merseyside most popular.

Grant Bather, of survey organiser Virgin Money Car Insurance, said: “Many local authorities do their best to ensure drivers aren’t treated like second-class citizens.”
