SHEFFIELD is set to go green, white and orange for next month’s St Patrick’s Day celebrations when a giant inflatable cube will be erected on Devonshire Green.
The cube will be home to the Irish Live Lounge and host Irish music, events and drinks promotions from Thursday, March, 15, to Saturday 17.
There will be big screen coverage of the Six Nations rugby match between England and Ireland on St. Patrick’s Day at 5pm.
The Irish Live Lounge will be the centrepiece of the fourth Sheffield Irish Festival which will see a range of cultural events organised by Sheffield Irish Association.
The SIA says 50,000 Sheffielders have an Irish parent or grandparent.
Dave Oldroyd, of Sheffield Irish Association, said: “Like all large northern cities, Sheffield has a large number of people with Irish roots.
“St. Patrick’s Day gives them the chance to remember their family connections to Ireland and come together and celebrate them.
“The Irish Live Lounge will be a spectacular addition to our programme and as St. Patrick’s Day falls on a Saturday this year, I am sure it will get well used.”
Martin McGrail, MD of Airspace Structures, which will construct the Irish Live Lounge, added: “The Irish Live Lounge will be an unmissable attraction.”
