Invitation to mark new year

SHEFFIELD’S Sri Lankan Community are preparing to celebrate the Sinhalese and Tamil New Year.

It is a time when families get together to conduct traditional rituals, religious ceremonies, offer thanks for a good rice harvest and wish peace and prosperity to all for the coming new year

To mark the occasion on Sunday, April 14, members of the city’s Sri Lankan community are inviting young people to take part in a drama which is scheduled to be held as part of the New Year celebrations.

The celebrations are due to take place at Batemoor and Jordanthorpe Community Centre, Dyche Lane, Batemoor.

Children aged over five who wish to take part as volunteers are asked to call 0114 255 3994.
