JAMAICAN people and their friends living in Sheffield are invited to an open-to-all meeting this Sunday to start planning celebrations to mark Jamaica’s 50th year of independence next year.
The Jamaica Society Sheffield Region is asking Jamaicans and their supporters to contribute ideas to an open discussion around plans to mark the anniversary, which falls on August 6, 2012.
Sunday’s meeting will take place at SADACCA day care centre on Willey Street off The Wicker at 5pm.
Society chairwoman Carmelita Duncan said: “We are in the process of planning a series of events to commemorate the 50th year of independence for Jamaica.
“We recognise the vast contributions Jamaicans have made to Sheffield and likewise the support the Jamaican community has benefited from within the city.”
