A MAN fell 35ft to his death while working at a makeshift garage in Sheffield.

The 42-year-old, who has not yet been named, was renovating a disused building on Darnall Road, Darnall, into a car workshop, police said.

He is believed to have fallen from the first floor of the building.

A joint investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is being carried out by South Yorkshire Police and the Health and Safety Executive.

A police spokesman said: “Police are investigating a fatal incident, which occurred on Darnall Road in Sheffield, around 11.55am on Tuesday.

“It is believed a 42-year-old man was fatally injured after he fell approximately 35ft inside a building, which he was working on at the time.”

A friend of the dead man, from Darnall, said he was Hungarian and had moved to Sheffield around three years ago.

She said: “Just because he is not from Sheffield I don’t want him to be a statistic – he was a lovely man and will be missed by a lot of people.

“He was so talented, there wasn’t anything he couldn’t do – painting, decorating, repairs – he would always help you.”
