An anonymous poet and artist is taking to Chesterfield's streets to surprise the public with attention-grabbing words and pictures.

The Urban Badger's work has popped up in several different parts of the town recently - and there's more to come.

They said: "The Urban Badger is a street-based poet and artist, currently focussed on Chesterfield.

"We do not just have one voice, mission or message but have many.

"We've been to a lot of places in the world where street art enlivens communities, stimulates the people and also adds to an atmosphere of freedom. We want to bring that to Chesterfield.

"Not only does the Urban Badger hold up a mirror to our society at times but it also wishes to surprise the public with something that is often dismissed: poetry.

"Is artwork and poetry on the pavement really a hindrance or can it be something that helps people slow down on the conveyor belt of modern life for just a few moments? Chesterfield will have to decide that for itself.

"In the meantime, we are readying our next pop-up piece and hope that it will be well received like our past poems."

Over Christmas, this poem was on display near Chesterfield's old magistrates' court on West Bars. The Urban Badger said: "We gave presents to the homeless on the streets because of the message we were trying to put across in this particular one."
