At least 10 people have been killed this afternoon after explosions on a subway train in the Russian city of St Petersburg.

The explosions occurred close the Sennaya Ploshchad station and are believed to have been caused by bombs packed with shrapnel.

Images posted on social media show a badly damaged carriage and a smoke-filled station platform.
