An inquest is to be held today into the death of a teenager on a night out in Sheffield.

Caroline Everest, aged 18, of Walkley, died on her way home from a night out at the Corporation nightclub in Sheffield city centre in the early hours of November 22, 2015.

Her body was discovered in the Porter Brook river, off Summerfield Street, Sharrow, two days later.

The popular teenager, known as Carrie, was studying biomedical science at Sheffield Hallam University and worked part time at B&M Bargains in the city.

She was a talented dancer who attended the City Limits dance school.

Fears for the welfare of the teenager were raised when she failed to turn up for work and a family dinner the day after her night out with friends.

Her body was found about half a mile from the Milton Street-based nightclub, where she had said goodbye to her friends before she left.

The death led to a major police investigation, with a huge cordon put in place around the spot where Carrie's body was found.

Police officers trawled CCTV footage from cameras around the city centre and established that Carrie left the club at 2.40am.

At 3.35am she was seen parting company with a man in Napier Street and 10 minutes later she was captured alone in Summerfield Street, where her body was later found.

A 31-year-old man arrested on suspicion of rape as part of the investigation was released without charge.
