an INQUEST has opened into the death of an eight-year-old girl from Sheffield.
Uduakabasi Umoh, who lived on Fairbank Road, died at Leeds General Infirmary on July 8.
An inquest in Leeds heard the schoolgirl was diagnosed with systematic juvenile idopathic arthritis - a rare form of the condition - in February.
Doctors later diagnosed macrophage activation syndrome, a life-threatening complication.
She was admitted to the hospital on July 8 for a drain to be fitted and was thought to have ‘recovered well’.
But an X-ray then showed air around the heart. The drain was aspirated, and the air removed, when her condition deteriorated.
Her death was recorded at 6.12pm in a paedeatric ward.
The inquest has been adjourned for further reports to be made.
