A mountain rescue team helped an injured 64-year-old man to safety in the Peak District – on their first call out of the New Year.

The joint Buxton and Edale Teams Snatch Squad was called on Thursday afternoon to Upper Fulwood Farm in the Edale Valley.

The man, from Bonsall, Derbyshire, had slipped while descending the steep hillside above Edale End and suffered a suspected fracture of his ankle.

He was treated on site by mountain rescue personnel who gave him pain relief and put splints on his injured leg.

A Buxton Mountain Rescue Team spokesman said today: “Once packaged he was evacuated by stretcher to Edale End, loaded into a waiting land ambulance and transferred to the Northern General Hospital, Sheffield, for further treatment.”
