I WAS disappointed to read the letter from Jane Whitehead (April 26, Seventh anniversary of greyhound’s death) which was out of date and misleading.
Greyhound Action claims that more than 10,000 greyhounds are bred for racing when only approximately 7,000 greyhounds were registered this year.
Greyhound Action operates well outside the area occupied by established animal welfare organisations.
Greyhound racing is a well-regulated sport enjoyed by millions. The welfare of the racing greyhound is central to the governing and regulatory body’s responsibilities.
The Greyhound Board of Great Britain meets regularly with responsible animal charities, including the Dogs Trust and RSPCA to ensure that racing greyhounds are one of the most protected of all canine breeds.
We support the Retired Greyhound Trust which has homed more than 45,000 dogs. We also contribute approximately £150,000 a year to the trust through donations and fund-raising initiatives.
