Barnsley Council is hosting an information drop in day next month as part of its Warm Homes campaign.

The council is keen to provide possible solutions to residents struggling to heat their homes.

Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis said: “Just one person dying because they are too scared to turn on the heating, is one death too many.

“It is unacceptable that in Britain, the fifth richest country in the world, we have people who die every winter because they are not able to keep warm during the cold weather.

“I’m very pleased that Barnsley Council has developed a plan to tackle the causes of winter deaths in the borough, particularly assessing current levels of fuel poverty.”

An information drop in session will be held at the Better Barnsley shop, Cheapside, on Friday, February 26 from 10am-1pm.

Information will be given on ways to lower the cost of heating homes.

Barnsley Council runs a central heating fund for those on low incomes to provide free central heating systems to homes which aren’t currently using gas, have unheated rooms, or which do not use gas as the main fuel type.
