In decline

Our economy in decline?

Rival politicians constantly dispute the facts about the issues they debate. Let me make an observation based on facts that do not seem to be in dispute.

The UK economy reached a peak GDP in 2008 and has only now recovered back to this level. In 2008 the UK population was 61.07 million, today it is 64.31 million.

It seems to be accepted that today more people are in work than ever before.

These simple facts indicate that GDP per head of population, and GDP per worker have declined thus making us individually les well off.

What has brought this about and what should we be doing to reverse this unwelcome trend?

Could it be that cheap labour is displacing productive investment?
