The owners of an Indian restaurant in Doncaster are facing a heavy financial penalty after three illegal workers were found during a Home Office operation at the weekend.
Immigration officers visited Tara Lounge on High Road, Warmsworth, on Saturday evening after receiving intelligence that the restaurant was using illegal workers.
Checks were carried out on the immigration status of staff members and a 23-year-old man from Pakistan and 31-year-old man from Bangladesh were found to have entered the UK illegally.
A third man, also 31 and from Bangladesh, was found to have overstayed his visa. All three are now detained pending their removal from the country.
The owners of Tara Lounge have been served with a civil penalty notice for employing the three illegal workers. They will be fined up to £10,000 per illegal worker unless proof is provided that the correct right to work checks were carried out.
