THE identity of a burned body found on a South Yorkshire allotment plot has still not been released by police.
Officers discovered the body at 5.20pm on Thursday and said there had been a fire on the allotment on Long Lane, Oxspring, near Barnsley.
It has not yet been revealed whether the body is male or female.
Police investigating the circumstances surrounding the death are keeping relatives of a missing elderly man from the local area up to date with developments.
The allotment plot was sealed off by police as a precaution following the grim discovery, while forensics experts conducted a thorough examination of the area to try to establish whether there was any foul play involved in the death.
The coroner has been informed of the death.
