Ice dance stars show it's great when you skate - VIDEO AND PICTURES

A BROKEN bra-strap and skating which glides right off the rink and backstage are all just part of the mix when you add glamour, glitz, ice and celebrities.

First night nerves and the odd uncontrollable slip-up added to the fun when Torvill and Dean's third live UK tour of Dancing on Ice skated off in Sheffield last night.

The wardrobe malfunction hit in the very first number and Todd Carty's send up of his own skills, or lack of them, had the audience creased with laughter by the second.

The stars were quick to admit that Sheffield has to be the best place to kick off a nationwide tour and the crowd didn't let them down for a minute.

They clapped, cheered, wolf-whistled and shouted messages of encouragement from the first sign of sequins to the last second of the sparking finale.

And there was never any doubt about the dedication of everyone involved as they showed off their frosty talents.

There were moments of danger to make the audience hold its collective breath, awesome lifts and rocking rhythm that had everyone out of their seats.

Every outfit looked fantastic and each step was carefully choreographed to perfection.

This year's tour celebrates the 25th anniversary of Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean's Olympic Gold medal win for their Bolero routine at the Sarajevo Winter Olympics in 1984.

And a quarter of a century later they can still delight their fans and make the most difficult moves look flawlessly simple.

The ever-popular television show's winners from the last three years competed against each other for the chance to skate the famous number in the final.

But it was the audience who were given the final say on the night's winner by text voting for their favourites Ray Quinn and Kyran Bracken.

There was little doubt that Ray was the deserved victor but with five weeks of shows ahead of him, Kyran looked determined to get his moves back in shape.

The celebrity line-up also included Chris Fountain, Melinda Messenger, Roxanne Pallett, Zoe Salmon, Suzanne Shaw and Jessica Taylor.

Olympic gold medal winner Robin Cousins led the panel of rink-side judges alongside Karen Barber, Ruthie Henshall and Nicky Slater.

Dancing on Ice Live is at Sheffield Arena tonight, tomorrow and Sunday.
