I used to enjoy The Diary

David Birch describes your Diary writer as 'smug, patronising, smirking, self-regarding fop' but forgot to add immature.

I stopped reading The Diary after his first attempt. I've always looked on it as a column written by someone with some experience of life and a certain way of describing its little ups and downs in a wry, humorous manner. The youth who was entrusted with filling Martin Dawes's shoes does neither.

I used to enjoy The Diary, but I turn the page without a glance now.
