Paul Blomfield MP highlighted new rules that could allow pub sites to become betting shops (Star, September 24). We have also seen the first “Office to Residential Prior Notification” applications in Sheffield. Under this new coalition initiative, most city centre developments won’t be consulted on or need Planning Committee approval provided they meet some basic criteria.
The proposed betting shop on Division Street does still require a “change of use” planning application. It will be difficult to stop but common people and Division Street traders have outlined a strong casen. Division Street is one of the few remaining streets with enough independent shops to make it a “destination”. Paul Blomfield and I have objected, along with 75 others. The reference is 13/02613/FUL and I urge people to make their voice heard.
