I just feel so sorry for these slaves to modern technology

Have your say

How sad that there are many people who have nothing better to do than queue for almost 22 hours to obtain the latest iPhone 6 at Meadowhall.

Technology has its place in today’s society and can be useful but it may come as a surprise to the technophobes that it is possible to get by quite adequately without smart phones taking over our lives.

Everywhere I go I see people of all ages looking like zombies whilst glued to their mobiles and ignoring so much of what is going on around them.

Only recently it has been established that many schoolchildren are putting their lives at risk by crossing roads whilst texting and many are losing the ability to communicate face to face with family and friends as they become isolated in their own little cyber world whilst competing with one another to acquire the latest hi-tec gadgets.

I am neither enraged or envious of these people but just feel extremely sorry for them.

I think that they could put their time and money to far better use rather than becoming slaves to modern technology.

They are also allowing themselves to be ripped off by companies whose only interest is to make as much money as possible by producing new phones every few months for those people silly enough to part with their money, just so they can say that they have the latest model.

I have a very simple mobile which I only keep in case of emergencies.

I don’t sit on public transport boring everyone else to death with trivial conversations that could easily wait until I get home.
