Paul Kenny attempts to castigate Jane Collins the prospective UKIP MEP candidate (letters April 14) for daring to suggest that she wouldn’t want to be treated by anyone who didn’t speak English.
If she was referring to the NHS and I assume Mr Kenny is then I would fully agree with her.
Regardless of medical ability how is a non English speaker to converse with other medics or read documentation and write case notes, let alone converse with the patient.
As for being treated abroad in the case of an accident then one would expect to be treated by someone with a foreign language and expect that individual to be able to converse and operate effectively in the language of that country.
Because we are talking UKIP I guess Mr Kenny is trying to dream up unfounded racist overtones.
