A SUSPECTED thief posed for a picture before stealing a young woman’s phone while they travelled on a late-night train from Doncaster.

British Transport Police today released an image of the man they would like to speak with in connection with the incident, which took place at 11.45pm on Sunday, July 31.

He is seen smiling and eating a takeaway meal before their journey from Doncaster to Goole.

PC Wayne Pickett, of BTP, said: “The victim, a 20-year-old female from Goole, was travelling on the 23.10 service from Doncaster to Goole with a group of friends.

“She sat talking to a man on the train and they engaged in good humoured banter.

“The discussion then became heated and abusive for the remainder of the journey until the man left the service at Thorne.

“A few seconds later the victim’s friend’s phone rang, the caller ID showed the victim’s name. She checked her bag believing she had phoned her friend by mistake but discovered that her phone was missing.

“The victim answered her friend’s phone, and the male caller stated that ‘she wasn’t so clever now he had her phone’ and that ‘he was the man who had sat next to her on the train’.

“He then continued to abuse her before she put the phone down.”

She has made a number of attempts of call the phone since the incident, but it has been turned off.

PC Pickett added: “I would like to appeal to anyone who may recognise the man in the photo to contact police.”
