Police are hunting a man dressed in a Christmas jumper following an assault in which a train passenger was punched in the face.

British Transport Police want to talk to the man pictured after the attack on board the 22:19 Leeds to Doncaster service at 11pm on Saturday, 11 December.

PC Roy Percival, investigating, said: “The victim of this attack, a 30-year-old man from Doncaster, was on the train with his girlfriend. Also on board in the same carriage were a group of men and women behaving in a disorderly and rowdy manner.

“As the train arrived in Doncaster, one of the group threw a mobile phone towards the glass partition behind victim’s head. He looked up and was immediately punched in the face in an unprovoked attack, sustaining a deep cut above his right eye which required stitches.

“The group then left the train at Doncaster.”

From their initial enquiries, officers have isolated a number of images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with this offence. Any witnesses are asked to get in touch. If you know who he is, or have any other information, we would urge you to get in touch.

A 28-year-old man from Leeds has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently on police until Thursday, 7 January in connection with this incident.
