Hundreds sign up for obstacle course contest

Have your say

MORE than 500 people have now signed up to test their strength and stamina against a Royal Marine in a charity challenge.

The Endurer event is taking place in Barlow in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.

Participants are being challenged to beat super-fit Royal Marine commando Marc Bird, aged 28, over an eight- kilometre course featuring a range of obstacles.

The seasoned Royal Marine has seen eight years’ active service including tours of Afghanistan.

Organiser Pete Pollard, who owns the Hope Valley Health Club, said he has been stunned at the numbers booking so far - now nearly three times the amount at the same point for his inaugural event last March.

There will be two Endurer events, the main Endurer Dash on Saturday, September 22, followed by the Log Dash team challenge on Sunday, September 23, where groups have to carry a log around the course.

Organisers hope the events will raise thousands for the Help For Heroes charity. Places are available priced £24 per person. Log onto for details.
