Having bailed out the bankers to the tune of £1.3 trillion, the Government tells us we have to make huge cuts in public services to pay for it.
But we need a massive investment in climate jobs and services to avert the threat of catastrophic climate change.
In Sheffield, there is a steel industry that could easily produce renewable energy equipment, such as wind turbines. We need to radically improve local bus services so more people use them again. Improving the energy efficiency of homes and buildings is labour intensive. All these could provide employment for many local people.
In Sheffield, the Campaign Against Climate Change and Right to Work Campaign are holding a public meeting in support of the national One Million Jobs Now! campaign.
There will be a 30-minute film describing how creation of these jobs is both possible and necessary, followed by discussion. It will be held on Thursday, July 7 at 7.30pm in the Old Sharrow Junior School, South View Road. Entry is free and all are welcome.
