In her, rather belated, reply to my letter about Gary Madine, Dorothy Canning (Letters, March 14) pleads for him to be given another chance.
Sheffield Wednesday gave him another chance when they signed him in the knowledge that he had been convicted of a drunken assault when he was playing for Carlisle United.
They gave him a further chance after the first of his assaults in a Sheffield nightclub but he went on to commit another assault.
They have now given him yet another chance while he is still on licence from an 18-month prison sentence.
How many more chances does Dorothy think he should have?
Would she have been as understanding if a member of her family had been one of those he attacked?
I think she is letting her football loyalty override any moral principles she may have.
