Teenager Jake Dyson headed to Tramlines to watch some live music with his friends.

Little did he know his visit to Devonshire Green for the music festival would spark the beginning of a modelling career.

The former Newfield School pupil was approached by a scout from a top modelling agency and asked to enter the Elite Model Look Competition.

Today Jake, aged 16, from Lowedges, will compete with 10 boys at the finals of the competition in London after judges picked him out from the first round.

The competition discovered the likes of supermodels Cindy Crawford and Gisele Bundchen and Jake hopes it will mark the start of his career as a model.

The keen skateboarder, who is due to start a sport and fitness course at Norton College, said: “The winner of the
final goes to the international final in China.

“But they have said to us that they do sign up most of the people that have got through to the final 10.

“I’m hoping to do modelling and still go to college.

“It has been great so far. I was a bit shocked at first after being approached but I have really enjoyed it.

“I’m nervous but I am really excited for the final. I really want to become a model.”

After being approached by the scout, Jake and his mum Nicola Turner went to London for the first round of the
competition.

Judges were impressed by what they saw of 6ft tall Jake after speaking with him and watching him walk down a catwalk and put him through to the final.

Jake took part in a week-long boot camp with the other finalists, with classes in nutrition and how to perform on the catwalk training. They also took part in their first photo shoot.

The 10 girls and 10 boys in the final will take part in a catwalk show in front of big names from the fashion industry.

Nicola said: “I’m so proud of him. As a mum you think your child is beautiful, but it’s nice to know you are right and others think so too.

“Jake had never been to London before this and for his first trip he went with me, but for the boot camp he went on his own.

“It has been a big change for him, but he is really taking it in his stride.”
