a INVESTIGATION into the cause of a fatal house blaze has found it was an accident.

Clothes or papers are believed to have caught fire near to a gas fire in the property on Woodhall Road, Darfield, Barnsley – creating flames which engulfed the lounge.

A man, believed to be in his sixties, died in the fire, on Tuesday, March 26.

A fire service spokesman said: “The fire is believed to have been caused accidentally by the ignition of clothes or papers which had been left near to a gas fire.

“A severe fire then spread quickly to the rest of the room.

“Our investigation officer’s report is being submitted to the coroner.”
