DOG owners and their canine friends are being urged to take part in a sponsored walk for Barnsley Hospice.
Paws in the Park is the hospice’s second sponsored dog walk, and will see fundraisers complete routes of two-and-a-half or six miles.
Proceeds will go to the running of the hospice at Gawber, which cares for anyone in Barnsley who has a life-threatening illness. It is hoped money raised will top last year’s total of around £1,800.
Organiser Mandy Ibbotson said she and colleagues are hoping to make it an annual event.
She said: “Last year 74 dogs took part, and numbers are looking even better for this year.
“It’s a really good chance to turn an everyday task into an activity that will really make a difference.”
The sponsored walk takes place at Cannon Hall Country Park on Sunday, September 2, and is one of a number of fundraising events running throughout the day.
Walkers can register in advance until August 28, or on the day between 11.30am and 2pm.
Entry costs £6, and all participants will receive a bandana, certificate and goody bag.
The star prize for the pet raising the most money is the opportunity to be pictured on promotional leaflets and posters for next year’s event.
Anyone unable to attend but who would like to make a donation to the hospice can text PAWS06 followed by the amount - for example, PAWS06£5 - to 70070.
