Owners of a hotel in Wath Upon Dearne, Rotherham, have been fined for failing to have a television licence.

Sandygate House Ltd, which runs the Sandygate Hotel, was fined £800 and ordered to pay £200 costs and an £80 victim surcharge by Rotherham magistrates.

A single television licence covers up to 15 hotel rooms.

Matt Thompson, TV Licensing spokesperson for the North, said: “We appreciate these are tough times in the hospitality sector, but to be fair to the majority who do pay the licence fee, we have to take action against those who watch TV illegally.”
