‘WASTEFUL’ spending plans by Sheffield Council were attacked by Liberal Democrats as a further £50 million of cuts loom next year.
The opposition party tabled a motion at a full council meeting criticising spending of £2.2 million refurbishing meeting rooms in the Town Hall and a £475,000 bill for full-time trade union officials.
Ruling Labour members said refurbishing meeting rooms means they can move more operations into the Town Hall and save money on rents elsewhere.
Labour proposed a motion criticising the coalition Government’s ‘unfair’ cuts which mean Sheffield suffers a proportionately larger budget cut than small, rural councils. The Government says smaller councils only have a small budget to start with.
