A HORSE had to be destroyed yesterday after it jumped a fence and ran into the path of a car travelling along a dual carriageway in Sheffield.

The horse was struck by a Peugeot estate on the Bochum Parkway, Norton, yesterday afternoon and broke its legs.

A vet had to destroy the animal at the scene. The driver of the car escaped unharmed. Police closed the road while they dealt with the incident.
