Homes were evacuated as three caravans on a travellers’ site in South Yorkshire went up in flames.
The blaze on a site on Sutton Road, Askern in Doncaster, broke out at 6.40pm yesterday and led to the evacuation of residents from up to 30 other caravans and homes.
More than 20 firefighters from Askern, Adwick and Doncaster stations spent around three hours extinguishing the blaze and preventing it from spreading across the site.
During the blaze a gas cylinder exploded but nobody was hurt in the blast.
A number of other cylinders which heated up in the fire are being cooled before residents are allowed to return to their homes.
An investigation is to be carried out to establish what caused the fire.
