PROBES into the past are proving ever more popular - a point proven when 850 people visited the Sheffield Family History Society’s fair.
The event, at the Centre in the Park, Norfolk Park, is held every two years - but is now such a draw it may become an annual event.
Sharon Lane, society committee member, said: “Family history is a boom area.
“We had some visitors who had reached barriers in their own research who were able to seek help from members of our committee about where they should go next, but we also get many people who are complete beginners and are looking into how to start their investigations.”
The event featured talks on genealogy, displays on local military history and exhibits brought along by Sheffield Archives.
There were also displays from other history societies such as Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Totley.
