Sheffield music legend Richard Hawley has unveiled a ‘love song to the people of Sheffield’ at the Millennium Gallery in the city centre.
Richard was commissioned to write a piece of text celebrating Sheffield’s long history of making by the Off the Shelf literary festival.
The piece – entitled Hey You – has been designed in a striking blue, inspired by Sheffield Wednesday’s kit and Marvel comics.
Richard said: “If you think about it, the uniqueness of people and out of the billions and trillions of different molecules, you’re unique, you’re you.
“I just wanted to write something really positive about people and life, people might walk past and feel quite crap that day and if they saw that they might go, ‘Oh, it’s not that bad.’
“The idea of being an individual is very, very slowly fading out of our world, we tend to move in gangs or flocks whether that’s political or religious, social or whatever. The idea of being an individual is quite special.”
The poem will be on display at the gallery until November.
