VETERANS were transported back to wartime Britain at a fundraising event.

Chaps donned braces while women paid homage to ‘40s style for a night of music held in Mablethorpe, Lincolnshire.

Among the crowd was Sheffield Normandy Veterans’ Association member John Quinn.

The 88-year-old, of Mablethorpe, collected the cash raised from the event on behalf of his local British Legion branch along with Adrian Dobson, from Swinton, near Rotherham.

John, who lost six friends in the World War Two D-Day landings in Normandy, returned from a pilgrimage to France to mark the anniversary in time for the celebration.

He said: “It was a great night, like being back in the old days. Everything was like it was back during the war.

“They raised between £200 and £300.

“I am a member of Sheffield Normandy Vets but I am the only one living in Mablethorpe.”
