A North Derbyshire railway charity has won a prestigious national award.
The Deltic Preservation Society, which specialises in preserving and maintaining locomotives which once pulled crack passenger expresses between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh on the East Coast main line through Doncaster, picked up the Heritage Railway Association accolade.
The award was for its work in combining with Locomotion Shildon in County Durham and the East Lancashire Railway to bring together seven Deltic locos from different parts of the country for a major event at Shildon to mark the 50th anniversary of the Deltic class.
Peter Kennan, secretary of the Deltic Preservation Society and partner in Sheffield accountants Hawsons, said the project was the biggest the society had ever been involved in.
He added: “We are delighted to receive the award.”
