People in Barnsley are being asked to contact a new national helpline if they become aware of anyone sleeping rough anywhere in the borough.
The StreetLink service gives members of the public a point of contact if they see someone sleeping on the streets.
Cabinet spokesperson for communities Coun Jenny Platts said: “There are only a small number of rough sleepers in the borough.
“But the longer someone sleeps rough the greater the risk they will become trapped on the streets and vulnerable to becoming a victim of crime, drug or alcohol problems, or experience problems with their health.”
Around 1,600 homeless people have applied for help in Barnsley over the last three years.
